L&T Bags $ 32.5 million Order for Oman India Fertiliser Project

Larsen & Toubro Limited has bagged prestigious orders of US $32.5 million from SPF-TKP OMIFPRO SNC, a joint venture of Snamprogetti, Italy and Technip Coflexip, France, for supply of equipment to Oman India Fertilizer Company (OMIFCO) in the Sultanate of Oman.

OMIFCO, jointly owned by Oman Oil, IFFCO and KRIBHCO (both Indian fertilizer companies), has awarded an LSTK (Lump-Sum Turn Key) contract to Snamprogetti and Technip-Coflexip JV.
These orders will be jointly executed by L&T's Heavy Engineering Division (HED) and the Engineering & Construction (E&C) Division.

Under the order, HED will be responsible for design, fabrication and supply on an FOB basis of all critical equipment such as ammonia converters, reformed gas waste heat boiler systems, secondary reformers, ammonia separators, alloy steel reactors, CO2 absorbers & regenerators, high-pressure heat exchangers for two ammonia plants of 1750 tonnes per day (tpd) capacity each, and also urea reactors for two urea plants of 2530 tpd capacity each.
Under the order, L&T's E&C Division is responsible for the supply of two primary reformer packages on an FOB basis for OMIFCO's 2 x 1750-tpd capacity ammonia plant against stiff international competition from Heurtey Petrochem, Foster-Wheeler and Kirchner Italia.

E&C's scope of work includes mechanical design, detailed engineering, manufacturing, supply and testing of two steam reforming furnace packages including radiant section, convection modules, pressure parts, FG ducts, stack, platform and ladders/stairs, etc. A target of 11 months has been set for delivering this package.

The Heavy Engineering Division of L&T has established a long and consistent track record in the design, fabrication and supply of critical equipment to the process industry. For more than a decade, the Division has been at the forefront of exporting this equipment to the Middle East, the Far East, Europe and the US markets.

The E&C Division has established a long and consistent track record in the area of Process Furnaces. Having engineered and constructed over 36 steam reforming furnaces and 45 direct fired heaters, this product line has been identified as L&T's global product. Previously, L&T had also successfully executed the Syngas Reformer package for Petronas, Malaysia.

Bagged against stiff international competition from Japan, Italy and Germany, these orders for OMIFCO mark another major leap forward for L&T in the supply of fertilizer plant equipment for the global market and is also a forerunner of significant international business expected for this product line.
