L&T's Engineering & Construction Division has booked
orders aggregating to an impressive Rs.1002.05 crore in August 2002.
The biggest among these is an order for Rs.580.97 crore. It involves
executing Diesel Hydrotreater (DHDT) and Hydrogen package for the
Panipat plant of Indian Oil Corporation Limited.
Two more orders received during the same period
are for the procurement, fabrication and installation of clamp on
structure at EC, SE, IM, SU, NM and NH platforms for ONGC, valued
at Rs 32.62 crore; and for the supply and commissioning of equipment
for pyro processing upgradation for J. P. Cement Limited, the order
value being Rs 8.50 crore.
Another major order bagged during the period is from Gujarat State
Petronet Limited for carrying out pipeline composite works between
Paguthan and Baroda and is valued at Rs 110.73 crore. Lafarge Surma
Cement also has placed a Rs 108.75-crore order on L&T for constructing
a long belt conveyor.
Also bagged during August 2002 is another interesting order from
Business Parks of Mauritius Limited for the construction of Ebene
Cyber city in Mauritius for Rs 73.50 crore. This is a state-of-the-art
knowledge park spread across an area of 150 acres and consists of
construction of a Cyber Tower with a built-up area of about 45,000
sq. metres. Under another contract worth Rs 28.25 crore, L&T will
construct an Administrative Building for Cognizant Solutions. Andhra
Pradesh Generation Corporation Limited has placed an order on L&T
to construct VTPS Cooling Towers under a Rs 19-crore contract.
The other orders won by L&T during August 2002
are from SAP Labs, National Aluminium Company Limited, Golden Distilleries,
Belle Vue Clinic, Tata Hydro Electric Power Authority, Central Railways
and Tamil Nadu Water & Drainage Board and their total value is Rs
39.73 crore.
"These orders are the result of integrated efforts
by L&T to continually optimize its costs and delivery schedules
and benchmark itself with global construction majors in terms of
IT-enabling the project management," said Mr. A. Ramakrishna, L&T's
Deputy Managing Director.
"These orders have been booked despite the depressed economic conditions
prevailing in the country and a general lack of spending on infrastructure.
Our engineering capabilities with 3D model experience and process
intensive strength is a critical enabler to qualify for such projects,"
said Mr. K. Venkataramanan, L&T's President (Operations) and Member
of the Board.
