Recognising L&T's exceptional
efforts in fulfilling its social obligations, especially its
contribution to promoting better family welfare in the community,
the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI)
has awarded L&T its prestigious award for the year 2003.
FICCI Award 2003 was handed
over by the President of India, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam,
at a glittering awards function organised during 76th Annual
General Meeting of FICCI on January 7, 2004 at Vigyan Bhawan,
New Delhi. Mr. K. Venkataramanan, President (Operations) and
Member of the Board, received the award from Dr. Abdul Kalam.
FICCI was established in
1927, on the advice of Mahatma Gandhi, to garner support for
India's Independence and to further the interests of the Indian
business community. Started with 24 members, today it has
a membership of over 500 chambers of commerce, trade associations
and industry bodies, and represents over 250,000 business
units - small, medium and large - employing around 20 million
people.
In 1967, it decided to
institute FICCI Awards to mark the end of four decades of
its existence and to promote individual, corporate and institutional
initiatives in economic, social and scientific areas.
