The Gujarat Cement Works (GCW) of L&T has bagged the Award for Excellence - 2001 in Industrial Relations category from the Federation of Gujarat Industries. The award was presented at a ceremony held in Baroda on June 15, 2002. Mr. V.J. Shukla, Vice President, IT and HRD, Cement Division, L&T received the award on behalf of GCW, from the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Mr. Narendra Modi.

The Federation of Gujarat Industries is an autonomous organisation for the industries in Gujarat State founded in 1918. The Awards for Excellence were instituted by the Federation in its platinum jubilee year in 1993 to recognize excellence in economic, social and scientific areas.

GCW received the award in recognition of its commendable efforts in maintaining a healthy and peaceful climate by creating a caring culture for its employees to achieve success in a complex industrial environment in a rural remote location.
