| The
supply voltage gets distorted due to harmonic currents
generated by invertors. Higher the source impedence (weak
bus), higher will be the voltage distortion. If the same
bus feeds other loads, care must be taken so that these
loads are not affected. For higher voltage distortions,
e.g. 5% & above, please review your power system design
for reduction of harmonics. The consequences of higher
harmonic distortion are over heating /burning of motors/cables,
bursting of capacitors, electrical/mechanical resonance,
noise interference etc. L&T provides/recommends ac side
or dc side chokes to reduce harmonics, which you can verify
using this interactive module. Kindly enter the kVA rating
& % impedence of feeding transformer along with the motor
rating to get the Total Harmonic Distortion on the feeding
bus. |
