Ethernet, wireless Ethernet projected
to grow quickly
Natick, MA - Use of Ethernet
and wireless Ethernet in industrial facilities is expected to increase
at compound annual growth rates (CAGRs) of 21.8% and 34.8%, respectively,
during the next three years, according to a new study by Venture
Development Corp. (VDC).
Shipments of wired Ethernet infrastructure
networking products is expected to increase from $846 million in
2003 to more than $1.5 billion in 2006, while shipments of wireless
Ethernet components is expected to increase from $62 million in
2003 to $152 million in 2006, according to “Worldwide Industrial
Markets for Ethernet Infrastructure Components and Network Software.'
To generate its projections, VDC
surveyed end-users, OEMs and system integrators. These industrial
users report their main motivations for implementing Ethernet include
its high reliability, high security, and low installation costs;
that it’s an established/proven technology; and that it’s easy to
integrate with existing networks.
Meanwhile, the respondents add
they implemented wireless Ethernet because they need mobile applications,
and added that wireless Ethernet’s main benefits include its flexibility/ease
of expansion/relocation, long distance/remote coverage, easy/fast
installations, and low installation costs.
