L&T Control & Automation - Technology Centre, the center for research and development and incorporation of new technologies has developed a new solution for traffic toll management.

The software is branded as Lane X™, the solution that keeps the systems moving. The software is completely user friendly and easily configurable. Different hardware components and the software application are an integral part of the complete system designed for superior toll management capabilities.

The system incorporates a number of features like traffic counting, classification of vehicles as defined by NHAI, incident detection system, panic alarms, payment method such as smart cards, etc. and generates a number of reports in tabular or graphical format.

The system has been developed with the objective of facilitating easy toll operations and minimizing revenue losses. It also incorporates use of proven technologies such as MiFare (based on the ISO 14443A), and Automatic Vehicle Classification system with Incidence Reporting & management at the plaza level.

The system consists of Toll Plaza Servers and individual lane computers connected through dedicated LAN. At the lane level, the actual toll operation takes place. The Lane-X™ software running on the toll booth computer is integrated with various devices such as the Smart Card Reader, Thermal Printer, and Barcode Scanner, IP Camera, & is designed in to reduce the overall transaction time and ensure a smooth tolling operation.

Plaza Level comprises of a central server wherein data from all the lane computers is collected on a real time basis. The Plaza Manager can use the Plaza Software to configure all the lanes, view the MIS in form of tabular and graphical reports and also to view the real time transaction updates from the lane computers. The Plaza Server is connected to all the lane computers via a dedicated LAN network.

Lane-X™, can generate and transmit, message alerts to individual mobile phones. Lane-X™ also comes with an Automatic Vehicle Classification system which can classify vehicles as they pass over the optical sensors and provides an incidence detection mechanism. L&T Control & Automation also offers Advance Traffic Management System (ATMS). Lane-XTM, with its value added features and additional functionalities combined with ATMS constitute a comprehensive solution for highway traffic management that L&T has to offer.
