Transforming the Face of L&T Switchgear Manufacturing
Transformation visible and vibrant is sweeping
through L&T's Electrical & Electronics Division's (EBG) manufacturing
facilities. The change strikes you the minute you step on to the shop floor.
It’s streamlined, sophisticated and stylish. The old, grey facilities have
yielded place to assembly lines that radiate tones of blue. Yes, this is the
bold new face of EBG's manufacturing. And of course, the classy new look is
only the visible aspect of a far deeper process. It is change, subtle but sure,
not just of mindsets, not just of assembly lines but of attitude.
The
successful implementation of manufacturing excellence drive in ESP also meant
drawing employees attention to positives like team culture, process ownership
and better ergonomics. This has resulted in creation of an appealing and work
friendly ambience. Some of the activities carried out in this direction are:

Installation
of Forced Draft Ventilation System – on assembly floor to maintain supply of
fresh and dust-free air.

Old
and heavy assembly tables are replaced with ergonomically designed and elegant
looking aluminium tables with individual stations having fan and tube-light.

Floor
is painted with epoxy polyurethane flooring that is glossy and abrasion
resistant.

False
ceiling is provided to improve aesthetics. The energy-conserving tube-light
fixtures are brought down to provide better illumination.

Providing workmen with crisp and smart uniforms.
