This division is the largest manufacturer of low voltage switchgear and controlgear in India and enjoys market leadership amidst competition from international players. A countrywide network of Stockists takes care of products’ distribution along with a widespread service network. Offices of the L&T Group companies, located around the world, support the requirements from export market.

With extensive range of Standard Products, L&T meets complex and varying needs of customers. We maintain high and consistent quality standards and our switchgear products have a proven performance record in conditions like wide voltage fluctuations, excessive humidity, dust and high ambient temperature. We believe in delivering products and services that meet or even exceed customers’ requirements and expectations.

The range under the Standard Products includes:

Powergear: Air Circuit Breakers with state-of-the-art communicable releases, Moulded Case Circuit Breakers, Switch Disconnector Fuse units, Switch Disconnectors, on-load changeover switches, changeover switches and HRC fuses.

Controlgear: Control and power contactors, thermal overload relays, motor protection circuit breakers, single phasing preventers, timers (electronic and thermal) and control accessories like push-button units, push-button pendants and electronic control stations.

Motor Starters: Direct-on-line and star-delta starters.

Energy Meters: Meters for tariff/non-tariff applications and energy management systems.

Wires and Cables: Flexible wires, flat cables and house wires.

Complementing Standard Products: Bar-mounted contactors, timing devices of varied types, remote control signaling units, rotary switches, foot switches & cable accessories, panel meters, limit switches, power capacitors & reactive power management systems, RCCBs, MCBs, electronic protective relays, residential distribution systems, protection & control devices for distribution systems, wires & cable marking systems and terminals & tools for wiring.

We manufacture custom-built switchboards with conventional as well as intelligent protection, control and communication to meet the power distribution and motor control needs of key industries. We continue to be the largest supplier of switchboard panels in India and these switchboards have been installed at many prestigious plants in India.

The range of custom-built switchboards comprises fully drawout power control centres and motor control centres, distribution boards and control panels – all conforming to IEC 60439-1 and IS 8623. Its Power Control Centre (PCC) type TF is rated up to 6000A and houses L&T-made ACBs to take care of power distribution. The L&T-made Motor Control Centre (MCC) type TQ is rated up to 5000A.

We offer fixed distribution boards, Intelligent Relays integrated with the PCCs and MCCs along with customized Human Machine Interface software and Power Quality Management Systems from the business associates. Also offered are allied equipment like busducts, transformers, MV switchgear, industrial batteries and cables, and undertakes turnkey contracts for comprehensive system engineering, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of switchboards and allied equipment. L&T offers assistance in product selection, application engineering and detailed engineering, installation & commissioning, retrofitting and upgradation of switchboards, after-sales service and training. L&T also designs and manufactures enclosures in flat pack systems for switchboard assemblers world-wide. Retrofitting solutions are offered for a wide range of LV & MV switchgear including IMCS.

We offer products and systems solutions for control, regulation and monitoring. We plan, design, engineer and implement drive controls, automation and UPS related projects from concept to commissioning. We have over 3,00,000 mandays of experience and expertise in system solutions.

Our products for industries and utilities include AC Drives, Servo Drives, Digital DC Drives and PLCs for OEMs. These are widely used in equipment such as elevators and cranes, HVAC, food and breweries, pharmaceuticals, chemical process, textiles, machine tools and plastic machinery.

Solutions include systems solutions across a host of industry verticals – cement, metals, paper, oil & gas, water, power, food processing, etc. The scope covers techno-commercial proposals, system design, procurement, integration, testing, supply, commissioning and hand-over.

L&T’s Drive Systems are built around digital DC drives (up to 5000kW), flux vector control AC drives with inverters from Yaskawa Electric, Japan (up to 575V, 1200 kVA), and high-performance MV inverters from Yaskawa, Japan (3.3kV up to 2400kVA and 6.6kV up to 4800kVA). Slip Power Recovery Systems (SPRS) are also part of the range. L&T offers a range of engineered static transfer switches and power conditioning equipment.

Automation systems incorporate programmable process controllers, supervisory colour graphic operator stations, network communication hardware and software, sensors, instruments, consoles and other accessories. SCADA solutions are based on technology from world leaders: Telvent (Canada) for pipelines and Telvent (Spain) for power transmission / distribution. L&T offers systems for Automatic Meter Reading (AMR), Distribution Management Systems (DMS) and Electrical Control System (ECS) for substations.

E-Gas solutions from Provenco (New Zealand) are adopted for automation of retail outlets. Plant integration solutions are based on soft platforms from OSI (USA). Capabilities include areas like Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), integration of process control systems with business systems (ITmation), and web enabling of legacy systems.

We are the leading suppliers of petroleum dispensing pumps in India. The range includes standard duty, heavy duty, single/dual nozzle, mechanical/electronic display dispensing pumps and multi product dispensing (MPD) units for dispensing up to 5 grades of fuel. L&T offers complete solution for design, engineering, installation and commissioning of Auto LPG dispensing Systems.

We designed, developed and launched India’s first electronic dispenser in 1984. To enhance the aesthetic appeal of the dispensing unit as well as the fuel pump outlets, we, for the first time in the country, introduced the unique ‘Z-line’ dispenser series in 1988 and later in 1996, launched the pre-set dispensers manufactured for the first time in the country. The oil pre-mix dispensers were launched in 1998 and a year later, multi-product dispensers were released. Our another first in the country was the introduction of QUAD dispensers and communication and printers in dispensers.

L&T continues to develop world-class products and has recently launched the SPRINT series of dispensing pumps with elegant appearance and in-built features like printer, card reader, touch screen as well as electronic calibration and hydraulics with better air separator for more accuracy and communication.

Our Medical products cater to a large number of hospitals, nursing homes and diagnostic centres. L&T’s products range includes ultrasound scanners, patient monitoring systems, anaesthesia delivery systems and machines and anaesthesia ventilators and surgical diathermies. In addition, for the Indian market, it has exclusive distributorship for ZOLL Medical Corporation - USA's cardiac resuscitation equipment and Av. ulco's anaesthesia delivery systems.

L&T's self imposed discipline of rigorously following international standards has enabled it to offer superior quality healthcare solutions to the medical fraternity at extremely affordable total cost of ownership for the entire lifecycle of the product. Its equipment's performance is on par with or better than equipment from international products, with the added bonus of an extensive service network and prompt back up support even in the remotest nooks and corners of the country.

We are the first Indian company that indigenously manufactures a Colour Doppler and have simultaneously received the FDA approval for it.

L&T manufactures and markets a comprehensive range of high quality electronic energy meters and numerical protective relays for utilities, industries, commercial establishments and individual users.

Designed and developed by in-house R&D, the range includes electronic programmable trivector meters (TVM), single and three-phase energy meters, intelligent panel meters and demand controllers. L&T has developed a special meter for metering of inter-utility energy flow based on Availability Based Tariff (ABT). A new intelligent single-phase meter with LCD display and communication capability is also available.

For remote reading, intelligent single and three-phase meters are available with communication interface, to serve as RTUs in energy management systems / SCADA/ automatic meter reading. L&T’s next-generation meters have facilities for communication through GSM/LPR modes for remote reading applications. A contactless Smart-card-based single-phase meter will soon be part of the L&T range.

L&T offers total solutions for protection in all the three segments of power systems, viz. generation, transmission and distribution. It manufactures single-phase and three-phase over-current / earth fault relays, voltage relays, motor protection relays, auto re-close relays, and intelligent power factor controllers that help in maintaining the plant PF at an optimum value and contribute to improving distribution efficiency. All relays conform to relevant IS and IEC standards.

International Marketing

For expanding the presence in selected international market with contemporary technology products this Division has got the required approvals from international bodies. It acquired CB (Certification Board) certification by KEMA for d-sine MCCBs and U–POWER ACBs, CCC (China Compulsory Certification) for U–POWER ACBs, UL (Underwriters Laboratories) listing of Electrical operating mechanism and single pole Contactors and CSA (Canadian Standards Association) certification for Contactors. Besides, CE (Conformite Europeene) approval for all Medical products and US FDA (Food & Drug Association) approval for three models of patient monitoring system and one model of ultrasound scanner were received during the year.

The electrical systems business made big inroads into the international market with acceptance from Oil and gas majors like ENOC, AGIP-ENI, Crescent Petroleum Sharjah and Qatar Gas, global EPC majors such as Technip, Snam, Petrofac, Aker Kaeverner and Japanese EPC majors such as Chiyoda, JGC and HMI. Breakthroughs have also been made at Indian companies in Thailand.

Engineered Tooling Solutions

One of the strengths of EBG is its in-house tooling facility that designs and manufactures a wide range of high precision tools, a pre-requisite for high quality products. The range includes press tools, moulds for thermosets and thermoplastic materials, pressure die casting dies, jigs, fixtures, gauges and tools for special machines, processes, etc.

The Tool Engineering and Design Department is equipped with CAD systems, and is also linked to the integrated CAD facility. Tool manufacturing facilities at Mumbai and Ahmednagar are equipped with Computer Aided Manufacturing facilities (CAM), high-precision machines like jig boring, CNC vertical machining centre, CNC jig grinder, CNC wire erosion machine, CNC surface grinder and CNC spark erosion machine.

Tool Engineering and Design facility is located at Powai (Mumbai).
